What a Christian Believes
• Jesus is the sinless son of God; He was fully man and is fully God.
• Jesus died for the sin of the world (and ours) and was resurrected three days later.
• God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit form one God in three persons.
• The Bible is the Word of God.
Qualities of a Christian
• “Taken off their old life” and “put on” a new one—being “born again”
• Have a personal relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
• Behaviour is reflective of a follower of Jesus Christ.
How to Become a Christian
• Make an informed decision to become a Christian.
• Pray to God (sinner’s prayer below) and commit your whole life to Him.
• Receive Jesus, by faith, fully trusting He’s your Saviour.
Sinner’s Prayer
There are two parts to the sinner’s prayer. The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Everyone, that means YOU!
In Romans we read:
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
It’s important to note God is not mad at you. He loves you. The slate of your life and your sins will be wiped clean the moment you enter God’s family. The Bible says God loves us so much He sent His one and only Son Jesus to shed His blood and die on the cross for our sins and then raised Him from the dead on the third day after His death.
If you want to become a Christian and live in Heaven for eternity, say these words out loud: “Dear God, I want to be a part of your family. I know I have sinned, please forgive me. I acknowledge that Your Son Jesus died for my sins on the cross, You raised Him from the dead, and I accept Him into my life as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.”
Congratulations, you’re a Christian! Now what?
• Tell someone about your newfound faith in Jesus Christ
• Spend time with God each day—praying to Him and reading your Bible
• Find a Bible-based church and attend regularly
• Make friends with other Christians and ask them to support you in your new life
• Get baptized—this makes a public declaration of your faith and commitment
Rededication to God
If you have dedicated your life to God in the past but have reverted back to some of your old ways, fallen away from Him, or just want to recommit yourself to your Christian walk, say this prayer:
“Dear God, please forgive me. I let myself get drawn away from the path you set out for me but I’m ready to get back on track. Thank you for sending Your son, Jesus to die on the cross for me and then bringing Him back to life. I will accept the Spirit’s guidance and return to living according to Your Word. Amen”
