She waits…
The bed is so cold, her heart cries his name.
The days run together, they are one and the same.
She yearns for comfort, she aches for his touch.
She misses his love, so very, very much.
She prays for his safety, she has too much to lose.
She ignores the rumours and turns off the news.
The kids miss their dad, the dog lays by the door.
Some days she thinks she can’t do it anymore.
The car breaks down, the tears start to fall.
Missing his voice, she longs for his call.
The kids count the days, she tries to be brave.
She wants to give up on the promise she made.
She waits…
Life goes on around her, her heart stands still.
One foot in front of the other, she knows the drill.
She comforts the kids, time passes in a blur.
She gives all that she has, but there’s no one to hold her.
The countdown is on, it won’t be long now.
She will make it through, some way, somehow.
The car pulls in the drive, the kids wait by the door.
Daddy is home, they don’t have to wait any more.
She waits….
He kisses the kids, she smiles with love.
He plays with his dog, she sends thanks to above.
He smiles at her, her heart starts to race.
He opens his arms, she walks into his embrace.
She waits…
She will cherish this time, from beginning to end.
For it won’t be too long, before he’s gone again.
She waits...
